Course Entry/Admission Requirements for BSc in Statistics at Coal City University

In addition to the University’s minimum entry requirements, the following conditions must be met:

Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Candidates Requirements

  • The minimum admission requirements for Statistics discipline are passes at credit level in the Senior Secondary School final year examination or its equivalent in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics obtained at not more than two sittings.
  • In addition, an acceptable pass in the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is mandatory.

Direct Entry Candidates Requirements

  • The Department considers and admits candidates with NCE and ND (or their equivalents) into the three-year programme in the Department of Mathematics of the faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences (FNAS). Candidates with NCE/ND are required to have obtained a minimum of credit level passes in four subjects and credit/pass in English language in an approved examination body: The West African School Certificate (WASC), General Certificate of Education (GCE), Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), National Examination Council (NECO), NABTEB or any other acceptable equivalent certificate.
  • Direct entry students admitted into the second year of the three-year programme in Department of Mathematics are required to take GSP 101 and 102 (the use of English I and II), GSP 111 and 112 (Introduction to Entrepreneurship I and II), GSP 201 and 202 (social sciences and Peace and Conflict Resolution) as the case may be and continue the three-programme. The students are also required to have covered first year Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. The waiver in any or all of the courses, in any department, will depend on the background level of the candidate and it is determined by the Faculty and Departmental boards.

Students who meet the following requirements may also be considered for the three-year program:

  • Holders of the School Certificate or its equivalent with at least four credit level passes and a pass in English Language in addition to approved 2-year diploma for related courses.
  • Holders of the NCE with at least a Merit aggregate; plus a minimum of credit pass in the subject to be combined with education are eligible for the three-year degree programme.
  • Holders of the ND with at least a Merit aggregate; plus a minimum of credit pass in the subject to be combined with education are eligible for the three-year degree programme.

How to Apply for Admission



The admission steps are as follows:

All candidates who have a desire of gaining admission into Coal City University Enugu are invited to commence online registration for screening. All candidates applying must have a minimum of 160 in their UTME and minimum of 5 Credits O’Level result in relevant subjects including English and Mathematics (except Political Science department where D7 is accepted in Mathematics) and not more than two sittings in WAEC.

Step 1 – Change of Institution

You are expected to choose Coal City University as your first choice of university while siting for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Boards’ (JAMB) Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). However, if you did not choose CCU at the initial stage, you have the opportunity to do a change of institution. This process can only be done at a Computer Based Testing (CBT) center or any JAMB Office Nationwide.

NOTE: This process CANNOT be done at a cyber cafe.

Step 2 – Upload of O’Level Result

Currently, admissions are only issued to candidates whose O’Level results are available to JAMB. To ensure you don’t miss the opportunity of gaining admission into Coal City University, make sure you upload your result at JAMB Portal using the services of a CBT Center or any JAMB Office. For the avoidance of doubt, kindly download JAMB CAPS MOBILE from your play store and register to also monitor your admission process.

Step 3 – Print out your Original JAMB Result

Step 4 – Apply to CCU

Click on Apply Now from any part of the site to go to the Portal.

While on the Portal, click on the “Apply for a Degree Programme”; link to generate an invoice for the payment of the application fee of NGN2,000. Select your application type, enter your JAMB Registration Number and click on submit.

Step 5 – Print Application Form

Step 6 – Accept and Print Admission Letter
