Course Entry/Admission Requirements for B.A.Ed. in English at Bayero University

Unified Tetiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Requirements

  • Prospective candidates must have sat for the Unified Tetiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Examinations, must have applied for a course in Bayero University, Kano and must have scored an aggregate to be determined by the University before they are deemed eligible in subjects relevant to the programme applied for.
  • Prospective candidates must have obtained a minimum of Five (5) passes at Credit level in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE or Equivalent) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or the National Examinations Council (NECO) in not more than two (2) sittings, including a pass at credit level in both English and Mathematics and other subjects relevant to the candidate’s chosen field of study. 
  • They would then be required to register and write a test (Post -UTME) which is conducted by the University.

Direct Entry

  • The general entry requirements for the Part-time degree programmes are Ordinary National Diploma (OND) (with merit), Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Interim Joint Matriculations Board (IJMB) (with a minimum of 8 points), General Certificate Examination (GCE) ‘A’ Level (3 credits) and Higher National Diploma (HND) (Pass).
  • Applicants must also possess all the necessary ‘O’ Level requirements applicable to the regular full time undergraduate admissions. This means that credit in English is compulsory for all courses applied, while Mathematics is necessary for science based courses and the social sciences.
  • Holders of 'A' Level certificate would be required to submit their credentials for screening.

Part-time Degree

  • The general entry requirements for the Part-time degree programmes are Ordinary National Diploma (OND) (with merit), Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Interim Joint Matriculations Board (IJMB)  (with a minimum of 8 points), General Certificate Examination (GCE) ‘A’ Level (3 credits) and Higher National Diploma (HND) (Pass).
  • In addition to the ‘A’ Level qualifications stated above, applicants must also possess all the necessary ‘O’ Level requirements applicable to the regular full time undergraduate admissions.
  • This means that credit in English is compulsory for all courses applied, while Mathematics is necessary for science based courses and the social sciences. 
  • Only candidates of twenty five (25) years of age and above would be admitted. Candidates with only ‘O’ level results need not apply.

Undergraduate Application

This category of applicants must have Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent. Depending on additional qualification possed by an applicant, there are three ways to apply.

  • Unified Tetiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
  • Direct Entry
  • Part-time Degree

Post UTME Application Procedure

STEP 1  

At the homepage of the Bayero University website, www.buk.edu.ng, click POST-UTME Application Portal

STEP 2  

Login using your UTME Number and UTME Aggregate (total score), then upload your passport-sized photograph.

STEP 3   

Fill-in the Applicant’s Particulars Form.

STEP 4   

Print your personalized Payment Invoice and use the invoice to make the payment of N2,500 (Two Thousand Five Hundred Naira Only) at any branch of Banks Listed on your Invoice nationwide.

STEP 5   

After making the payment, return to the website, www.buk.edu.ng, login again. Your payment will be validated after which you can print your personalized Examination Card.

NOTE: No Applicant will be allowed to sit for the Post-UTME test without a valid Examination Card.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  •  Prospective candidates must have sat for the UTME Examinations, chose BUK as her/his first choice, and must have scored an aggregate of 180 or higher in the relevant subjects as advertised in the UME Brochure.
  • Prospective candidates are required to have a minimum of Five (5) relevant passes at Credit level in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or the National Examinations Council (NECO) in not more than two (2) sittings, including a pass at credit level in English.

 

 POST – UTME TEST

The date of the Post UTME examinations will be announced in the media as well as communicated to all registered applicants via their gsm and email addresses. The Venue, Time and Sitting Arrangement for the test will be on applicants’ Examination Cards.

 

Direct Entry Screening Application Procedure

STEP 1  

At the homepage of the Bayero University website, www.buk.edu.ng, click Direct Entry Screening Application Portal

STEP 2   

Login using your DE Number, the Program Applied and your Gender, then upload your passport-sized photograph.

STEP 3    

After uploading your picture, Fill-in (update) the Applicant’s Particulars Form.

STEP 4    

Print your personalized Payment Invoice and use the invoice to make the payment of N2,500 (Two Thousand Five Hundred Naira Only) at any branch of Banks Listed on your Invoice nationwide.

STEP 5

After making the payment, return to the website, www.buk.edu.ng, login again. Your payment will be validated after which you can Fill-in (update) the O' Level and A' Level Qualifications Form.

STEP 6

Print your Acknowledgement Letter and keep it safe.

NOTE: Only Applicants that are registered/screened online will be considered for DE admission.

Part-time Application Procedure

Step 1                    

Visit www.buk.edu.ng and under the PART-TIME DEGREE STUDENTS TAB click Application forms at the home page. Login using your NAME and select “Applying for a Part-time Degree Programme”

Step 2                    

Personalized Payment Invoice will be sent immediately into your email inbox. Print it and go to any branch of nationwide to make a non-refundable payment of N10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira Only).

Step 3                    

Return to www.buk.edu.ng and login to fill in the Application Forms, Fill in the Personal Data Form, qualifications Form, and Course Selection Form.

Step 4                    

Review your forms to ensure accuracy of all information you have provided. Click ‘SUBMIT’ to complete the application process.

Step 5                    

An auto-generated acknowledgement Slip will be sent immediately into your mail box. Print the Slip and keep it safe. The Slip will be needed during the collection of admission letter and during registration.

Postgraduate Application

Step 1

Click on the Register Tab on the left navigation panel to go to the Create an Account Page. At the Create an Account page, create an account by providing your First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Personal Email and Personal GSM Phone Number. A Login credentials (username and password) will be generated for you. Please take note of them, as you need them for subsequent steps of the application process. Use Login Tab on the left navigation panel to login to your account (using your login credentials) to start/continue your application process.

Step 2

Return to the Login Page and login with your username and password to fill in the Application Forms:

  • Programme Selection Form
  • Personal Data Form &
  • Qualifications Form

Step 3

Transcript Request Form shall also be filled in addition to the forms listed in Step 2 above.

Step 4

Review all your forms to ensure accuracy of all information before submission.

Step 5

Generate your BUK Personalised Payment Form (BUKPPF). The BUKPPF includes information need to make payment through the Remita e-Payments platform. Refer to the Payment Procedure documentation for an in-depth look on the payment procedure.

Step 6

After successfully generated BUKPPF and using the Remita e-Payments platform a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) number is generated for you. The RRR uniquely ties your payment to your application account, after obtaining your RRR, login to your application account and submit the RRR used for payment. Note that submitting the RRR in the application portal is not tied to your actual payment.

Step 7

Print an Acknowledgement Slip and keep it safe. The slip will be needed during the collection of admission letter and during registration.
